Paris store・London Harrods
Go Green campaign
As part of this Go Green campaign, we held workshops at both our Paris store and our London Harrods location, with the theme of making teru teru bōzu, traditional Japanese charms for wishing good weather.
(Dates: London: June 7th to June 29th (Saturdays and Sundays only), Paris: June 6th to June 28th (Fridays and Saturdays only))
By using leftover fabric from our product manufacturing to create these tiny puppets, our aim was not only to spark interest in environmental issues, but also to share with children in a fun way Japan’s cultural tradition.
Each store came up with its own approach to the initiative.
At the Paris store, staff prepared handmade teru teru bōzu kits, which were given to visiting customers with children.
The response was far greater than expected, with many saying things like, “This is such a fascinating idea! We don’t have anything like it in our country.”
One especially memorable moment came when a long-time loyal customer took a kit home, and a week later returned during a walk with her five-year-old son, who was wearing a MIKI HOUSE jinbei.
With a radiant smile, he said, “I want to make another petite poupée de pluie (little rain puppet)!”
His mother added, “Usually he just spends his time on video games or toys, but making the teru teru bōzu together gave us such meaningful time as a family!”
She was particularly moved to see her son, who has ADHD, working with such quiet concentration, saying, “It may be too early for him to truly grasp environmental education, but this experience reminded me of what is most precious for our family.”
Meanwhile, at the Harrods store, we held in-store workshops where children could actually make teru teru bōzu.
These drew children from all over the world, turning into a small but lively space for cross-cultural exchange.
Watching children from different countries and languages gather around a table, creating their puppets with colorful fabrics and threads, was heartwarming in itself. The activity was very well received not only by the children but also by their parents and the Harrods staff.
Many expressed their excitement, saying, “It’s wonderful to be able to experience Japanese culture in this way.”
One participant, smiling, told us, “I’ve been a MIKI HOUSE fan for many years, and being able to take part in a workshop using your original fabrics was such a joy, even as an adult!”
Through this initiative, we realized that by combining environmental education with cultural experiences, it is possible to create encounters that leave a lasting impression on people’s hearts.
We believe that the smiles of children, and the warm connections spreading from them to families and communities, are an important step toward building a sustainable society for the future.
